Understanding Email

Understanding Email
It is important to read and understand the concepts laid out in this document. Understanding email concepts will aid you in defining your best email strategy. With the purchase of a website you get 5 free email, 1 Catch-All and 1 Forward accounts and 8MG of server space with 2Gb of Monthly transfer. Although 8MG of server space meets the need’s for the majority of small businesses. Some companies email large documents or have users that do not consistently check their email. Therefore you can upgrade and add 250MG of space for $15.99 a month.

How Email Works
The way email works is email sent to your email accounts is stored on the email server. The email sits on the server taking up space, until the user opens outlook and reads there email. When the email is read it is downloaded from the server to the users PC freeing up the server space. Once read the email then resides on the users computer.

Email Server Space
With the purchase of a website you get 5 free email accounts and 8MG of email server space. If the server space is consumed/filled with emails that have not been read/downloaded the email accounts will not receive additional mail. The mail will be denied and returned to the sender.

Email Account Quota’s
Account Quota’s allow you to divide your server space up, designating the amount of space that can be used by each account. For an example if you have 4 account’s Tom, Dick, Harry and Jane. You could set Quota’s of 2MG per account. Under this scenario if Tom consumed 2MG of email server space, his account would deny arrival of new emails. Dick, Harry and Jane’s accounts would still function assuming they had not consumed their 2MG Quota’s. Without the use of Quota’s Tom could use the entire 8MG of server space, resulting in Tom, Dick, Harry and Jane’s accounts refusing to receive new emails.

Email Forward Account
A forward account allows emails to be forwarded to one or more recipients. For example if you have 4 email accounts Tom, Dick, Harry and Jane and a forward account named Staff, when an email is sent to the Staff Forward account the email will be forwarded to Tom, Dick Harry and Jane's accounts. Note: the forward account is not a real email account and does not count as one of your free 5 email accounts.
